Best Time to Visit Phuket – Month-by-Month Weather Guide
Choosing the best time to visit Phuket can make a big difference in your holiday experience. Phuket has only two main seasons —the dry season and the rainy season — but every month offers something different in terms of temperature, rainfall, and sea conditions. Based on the last five years of average climate data, here is a detailed month-by-month guide, ranked from the best to the least ideal months for a holiday.

January – Best Overall
Average Temp: 27°C | Rainfall: ~40 mm
January is the peak of the dry season, offering sunshine, calm seas, and comfortable humidity. The ocean visibility is excellent for diving around Phi Phi and Racha Islands, and beaches like Kata and Karon are perfect for families. Hotel prices are high, but the weather quality makes it worth it.
February – Ideal for Water Sports
Average Temp: 28°C | Rainfall: ~30 mm
February is the driest month in Phuket. If you enjoy boat tours, snorkeling, or island hopping, this is one of the best periods. Winds are minimal, making speedboat trips to Maya Bay or Khai Islands extremely smooth.
March – Warm and Lively
Average Temp: 29°C | Rainfall: ~50 mm
The weather warms up, and the sea remains calm. Tour prices start to drop slightly as high season begins to cool off. Great month for beach clubs and sunset viewpoints like Promthep Cape.
December – Festive & Beautiful
Average Temp: 27°C | Rainfall: ~60 mm
December marks the beginning of high season. Rainfall becomes rare, humidity decreases, and beaches are clean and calm. Christmas and New Year increase prices, so booking tours and hotels early is recommended.
November – Transition With Fewer Crowds
Average Temp: 27°C | Rainfall: ~190 mm
The rainy season ends, and weather begins improving quickly. Seas can still be slightly wavy in the first half of the month, but it’s a beautiful time if you want good prices and acceptable weather.
April – Hot but Manageable
Average Temp: 30°C | Rainfall: ~140 mm
April is the hottest month, and humidity rises. It’s still a good time, but staying hydrated is essential. If you visit in April, you may also experience Songkran Festival (Thai New Year), which is a unique cultural experience.
May – Start of the Rainy Season
Average Temp: 29°C | Rainfall: ~320 mm
The monsoon begins. Not every day rains, but showers are frequent and unpredictable. Sea conditions are not ideal for long boat trips, especially to distant islands.
October – Cheapest but Unstable
Average Temp: 28°C | Rainfall: ~300 mm
Still officially low season, prices are at their lowest. Good for budget travelers, but sea conditions vary daily. The last two weeks of October usually start showing improvement.
June – September – Rainiest Months
Average Temp: 27–28°C | Rainfall: 300–400 mm
These are the months with the heaviest rainfall and rougher waves. Some boat tours may be canceled due to safety reasons, especially Phi Phi routes. However, hotel prices drop by up to 50%, making it attractive for digital nomads or long-term stays.
June: Rain increases, but some sunny days still appear.
July: Sea becomes rougher; surfing season begins at Kata Beach.
August: Windy, rainy, and unpredictable.
September: Wettest month; travel planning flexibility is important.
