Phuket is one of Thailand's easiest places to combine serious Muay Thai training with a holiday. Chalong's Soi Ta-Iad is built around combat sports, with Muay Thai gyms, fitness centres, healthy restaurants and accommodation concentrated in one area. Rawai/Nai Harn suits trainees who also want beach access, while Surin is another option for a quieter beach-and-training stay.
Outside the gym, Phuket offers beaches such as Kata, Karon and Nai Harn, Phuket Old Town, Wat Chalong, viewpoints, local markets, nightlife and easy access to snorkelling, diving and island trips. You can train in the morning or afternoon and still experience the island.
Current official rates from established Phuket camps give a useful guide. A drop-in group class is commonly around 600-700 THB. Some gyms run two daily sessions, with a full day around 900 THB. Weekly group-training packages at training-focused gyms are typically around 3,000-4,000 THB, while broader all-access programs can cost more.
Private training usually costs around 800-1,200 THB for one hour with a regular trainer. Senior-trainer sessions can cost more. Many camps run morning and afternoon classes Monday to Saturday, and group sessions commonly last about two hours.
Yes. Major Phuket gyms accept complete beginners as well as experienced fighters. Beginners are normally introduced to stance, footwork, punches, kicks, knees, elbows, shadowboxing, bag work and pad work before more advanced clinching or sparring. You can try one class, train for a week or build a longer program.
Training-only packages become cheaper per session as the stay gets longer. Sinbi Muay Thai currently lists 8,000 THB per month for one class per day, 12,000 THB for two classes per day, 27,000 THB for three months and 48,000 THB for six months.
Accommodation and food are not automatically included at every camp. Tiger Muay Thai's Basic All-Inclusive Standard package, including training, standard accommodation and a prepaid meal card, is currently 42,800 THB for one month and 123,500 THB for three months. Six-month all-inclusive prices are not consistently published, so long-stay students should request a quote instead of simply multiplying the monthly rate.
For recognised Thai brands, expect about 2,200-3,000 THB for gloves, 2,000-2,700 THB for shin guards, 290-450 THB for hand wraps, around 550 THB for a mouthguard and 1,200-2,000 THB for Muay Thai shorts. A practical branded starter kit is therefore around 6,000-8,000 THB. Some gyms rent equipment; Sinbi lists gloves at 50 THB and shin guards at 100 THB per session.
Choose Chalong/Soi Ta-Iad if training is the main purpose of your trip. Choose Rawai/Nai Harn if you want serious Muay Thai with beaches nearby, or Surin for a quieter coastal stay. For one month or longer, compare the training schedule, accommodation, meal policy and recovery facilities before booking.
