Private Thai & Akha Cooking Class with Local Market Visit in Chiang Rai

Discover the flavours and traditions of Northern Thailand during a private, hands-on cooking experience at Akha Kitchen in Chiang Rai. Your host and personal instructor, Chef Jaruwan (Jaru), is a professionally trained chef of Akha heritage who was born and raised in Chiang Rai. Through her food, stories and warm hospitality, she introduces guests to both Thai cuisine and the culinary traditions of the Akha community.

The approximately four-hour experience begins with a visit to a local market, where you will explore seasonal produce, taste local ingredients and shop for fresh items used during the class. You will then continue to Chef Jaru’s private home kitchen for a fully guided cooking session.

After an introduction to Thai and Akha culture, you will prepare the traditional Akha speciality “Sa-pee-tong,” a recipe rarely shared outside the community. The class will also choose and prepare four popular Thai dishes with step-by-step guidance.
